Also: recently got a new pc, before installing bittorrent or anysuch thing (had already Dleded the client on the old PC as well), tried to log into EvE and same problem.

So maybe we're on to something here...
So please ccp fix this sometime during 2009, or else 2010 will do just fine as well. I might learn something anyway from that help channel.
It's all freudian.
I can see you havn't been following the development of this prolem (and I can understand why you wouldn't want to read through 30+ pages ). A temporary fix that had been previously identified is to keep a high-traffic chat chanel open (like the Help chanel) or run PingPlotter, pinging Tranquility, to reduce the probability of getting Socket Closed.
However, as the last poster mentioned, this doesn't help those of us who can no longer even get past the Login screen(my socket closed issues scaled from being DC'd every 20min, to every 5min, to being unable to login). Which also makes submitting the tests CCP requested kinda dificult (read impossible).

Originally by: Adehlea This has started happening to me over the past few days too.
In game, things just stop happening. My weapons stop using ammo though the activity circle keeps going round and round. It will stay doing this for quite some time.
If I try and open a window (agent conversion from journal, or market or anything like it) it opens up blank, and I get the 'Socket Disconnected'
If I am fleeted with my alt on another PC, she stays connected.
This is getting kind of annoying !
This is new/diferent.
What are the difernces between your 2 PCs? |

Are they both connected via wireless or cable? |

It actually isn't.
I presumed he meant he always had the problem on one PC and not both. In my case I have it on both (not necesarily at the same time) WinXp PC and Vista Laptop, both via wireless and cable. It would of given us an oprtunity to narrow down the cause of the issue...

Bringing this issue back to the front page after the post-patch spam.

Originally by: TS Midnight Im getting the same problem. I played fine for a few days.. then started getting problems. It started right after a storm knocked the ISP out (and power for a good while) it took my ISP 2 days get get everything back up and running, but they did.
It started out as every time i launched Eve my internet connection died completely. I could surf and play any other game without this happening. I fowarded the port on my router for the game and enabled DMZ. that seemed to fix my Eve crashing my internet atleast. NOW I can play for anywhere from 2-6 hours and then boom boom boom, I cant stay connected to Eve for more than a few seconds to do anything. O_o. I also get MASSIVE lag before disconnects.
So BUMP, its not me, its Eve. Please hurry with a fix. I won't play much longer if I can't play as much as i want.
Though I noticed I don't have this issue when i connect this machine directly to the modem. O_o
This does not match socket closed issue. It's more likely a problem with your router.

Originally by: Dyu Ha Seems I have found a temporary solution to my socket losing problem: Socket holders. I forged them from a umts pcie card. Not so comfortable, but...
indeed I do no longer experience any connection losses now, playing with eplus, a german mobile phone and umts service provider. It blocks tracing, so I can't tell what route my packets take now, but it works for my mac client as well as my windows clients. So it's traffic shaping after all? Not necessarily with our national isps but at some transfer point or however these connections between different carriers are called. Maybe I'll find some proxy out there with appropriate routing - umts is only umts after all.
Fly safe!
Could you explain how? And what are socket holders? (for us newbs ) Google wasnt very helpfull

Well I tried installing this (demo): http://www.artofping.com/pingfu-iris-http-tunneler.php
And voilß! I can connect!
So, shall we petition CCP to pay for our subscritions to this untill they figure out a way to fix the problem? |

Yep tunneling solved my problem too.
It's not a solution I want to use long term though.
CCP, can you PLEASE look into the routers between Nildram/Pipex and your server cluster. There must be some contacts you can use yo get this resolved. A guy a couple of posts up highlighted the probable cause of this issue with the packets being sent all at once.
Another option is using Your Freedom. A good description of how o set itup can be found here:
http://www.eve-search.com/thread/547642/page/1#15
But yeah, these are temporary workarounds. If I understood CCP noCs networking DevBlog, CCP can influence the route our connections take (?).
